Texas A&M University's  Open Access Labs (OAL) hires student employees on an ongoing basis to provide customer support and assistance in various campus computing labs.  The mission for the OAL Student Assistant is to ensure that OAL services are up and running without issue; if there’s an incident, the Student Assistant must work the incident, resolve it where possible, or escalate it where necessary. Additionally, the Student Assistant must be capable of communicating clearly and accurately with customers, users, and fellow team members. Finally, they need to view our services as more than just operable/inoperable devices.
 
Job Description:
Working with the Open Access Labs provides a unique opportunity to serve the Texas A&M community.  A job with the lab team offers:

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Treat team members, users, and customers with respect
  • Ensure 100% of the team’s printers are fully operational, keeping downtime (where necessary) to a minimum
  • Keep the percentage of “Alive” workstations for the team between 98% and 100%
  • Report status of workstations, printers, and services via appropriate channels as accurately and promptly as possible

  • Demonstrate effective communication and phone etiquette via new employee training and utilization of internal tools
  • Demonstrate troubleshooting methodologies through incident review during and post-resolution
  • Demonstrate internal and external customer interaction skills through semesterly training and individual evaluations
Qualifications:
We are looking for dependable, punctual, self-motivated students who can work with minimal supervision. Lab workers must demonstrate a willingness to learn the lab software and equipment and be able communicate and use that knowledge to assist lab customers (students, faculty, staff, and visitors) in using the lab resources.

Minimum Qualifications include:
  • Must be available to work for the next three (3) semesters
  • Must be available to work at least 10 hours a week
  • Must be enrolled in Texas A&M University Main Campus for the next semester
  • Must be able to speak English fluently – this is a customer-service oriented job
  • Must have a customer service attitude and willingness to see problems through to their resolution
  • Work-study is preferred
  • Must have a 2.5 GPA or better
  • Must present a professional appearance
