Texas A&M University Open Access Labs hires student employees on an ongoing basis to provide customer support and assistance in various campus computing labs. If you enjoy working with people and computers, this is the job for you. As a student employee at a campus computing lab, you will have flexible hours, a team environment, have the opportunity to receive regular raises and promotions, work on campus, and learn computing and customer service skills. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your references for future professional employment.
Duties include distribution of printouts, troubleshooting printer problems, assisting customers with software and printing, password changes, answering phones, troubleshooting PC problems, cleaning lab equipment as well as leadership opportunities as student leaders in the labs. Weekly training sessions are mandatory. Assistants are reviewed twice a year and receive pay increases as duties and skills develop. Some labs are open 24 hours a day during the week and on weekends, so we have hours for morning people, night owls, and everyone in between. Assistants must be able to work with a very diverse group of Faculty, Staff and students.
We are looking for dependable, punctual, self-motivated students who can work with minimal supervision. Lab workers must demonstrate a willingness to learn the lab software and equipment and be able communicate and use that knowledge to assist lab customers (students, faculty, staff) in using the lab resources.
Minimum Qualifications include:
Active student at TAMU
Fluent in the English language with good phone manners
Know the basics of Microsoft Office products and be willing to learn about others
GPR of 2.5 or better
Graduation date at least 2 semesters away (Fall and Spring)
Able and willing to work some late night hours, early morning hours or weekend hours
Work a minimum of 10 hours per week (Most workers average 20 hours per week)
While we need people for all times of the day, we are specifically looking to cover late nights (10p.m.-7:00 a.m.), early morning (7:00a.m. to 10:00 a.m.) and weekends.
